The sales for light vehicles peaked since December.

The figures are up by as much as 19% compared to the May 2009 sales numbers marking the eight consecutive month of increase which is considered the longest streak since the first half of 2000. The adjusted rate of sales hit the bell at 11.8 million way over the predictions of experts.

Ford registered a 22% gain for May and also performed well during the incentive spree during the weekend of Memorial Day. General Motors also saw a jump of 17%.

Chrysler soared to a 33% improvement compared a year ago when the carmaker suffered bankruptcy.

The Detroit 3 surpassed the forecast figures of analysts going over by at least 6%.

The sales of Japanese car manufacturer Toyota also went up but only by 7% despite its barrage of incentive programs since March. This is the worst performance by Toyota after posting drops from January through February during the peak of the recall issues. Toyota is still struggling to get up and come up with a better image for the market after recalling over eight million units due to braking and acceleration problems.

Chrysler was trying to put on the market the line of the Dodge Viper sports car since last year but the brand did not even receive a bid of $10 million. The highest offer came from Devon Motorworks for $5.5 million which planned to use the Viper DNA for their supercar GTX range.

Before the bankruptcy of Chrysler, it has been said that it received offers for as much as $35 million. These attempts failed and were rejected due to insufficient funding.

Now that Fiat controls Chrysler, the latter has turned over the control of the Dodge Viper business to the Italian car maker. The fate of the super car brand is now in the hands of Fiat which can decide on continuing the Viper brand or declare its flat line.

There is a strong buzz and a high potential of killing the Viper brand since it is a competitor to the Maserati and Ferrari.

The end of the line for Viper will be a sad ending for a 17 year run under the Chrysler umbrella. The 25000th unit of the Dodge Viper was produced last March 2009 and was marked with a grand celebration which included the launch of the Viper SRT10 ACR.

Chrysler recently tied the knot with Fiat. The Italian brand further extends its reach to the global market, particularly in the U.S. Chrysler, on the other hand, gets the much needed backing so it can get out of the neck deep trouble it is in right now.
